Local disc golf event part of charity benefit for Kelly Wade
The Lodge at Taylor Ranch is planning a disc golf tournament and benefit auction for March 1 to help longtime Pawhuska resident Kelly Wade, who is struggling with major medical bills.
“He has needed to spend a tremendous amount of time in the hospital lately and the costs have just been overwhelming,” said Jack Taylor, co-founder and patriarch of Osage County’s premiere disc golf facility.
Both of the The Lodge’s professionally-designed, 18-hole courses are to be used for the benefit DG tournament, which will provide a highlight to what the Taylor family is calling the first Lodge at Pawhuska Charity Event.
Entry fee for the tourney is $5, but additional amounts ($10, $20, etc.) will be accepted and contributed to the cause, according to the event organizers. There will be a mandatory meeting for players at 9:30 a.m. and a home-cooked lunch will be provided, for a donation. Engraved trophies will be presented to the winners.
Beginning at 2 p.m., Taylor will personally conduct the auction at the Ranch clubhouse.
Anyone wishing to enter the tournament should call Taylor at 918-724-3121 or email him at email@example.com. Persons who are interested in donating items for the auction should contact Taylor at The Lodge or Terry Wade Lopez at 918-346-4683.
Taylor gave credit to the disc golf community for its outstanding help in launching the charity event. After early efforts to gather auction items had stalled, a plea for assistance was posted on the Tulsa Disc Sports Association website.
“You wouldn’t believe the strong outpouring of support we received after reaching out to them,” Taylor said. “I think it’s testimony to their caring mentality that so many of them were willing to jump in immediately and help us out.”
Additional information about the benefit tourney and auction will be forthcoming, according to Taylor.
“We need volunteers, donations and any other support that can be offered for the event,” he added.
