The 2014 KOMA Cattle Conference and Trade Show will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the Washington County fairgrounds in Dewey.
Registration will begin at noon with the program kicking off at 12:30 p.m. According to organizers, a dynamic set of speakers and topics are lined up for the 2014 conference.
Dr. Justin Sexton from the University of Missouri will kick off the program with a discussion of alternative feedstuffs that producers will be seeing this winter for beef cattle.
Earl Ward, OSU Extension Livestock Specialist, will give a report on a recent study done near Bartlesville examining the rate of gain of several implants during the summer of 2013.
Dr. Dave Rethorst DVM the Director of Outreach for Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University will provide a presentation on “Animal Welfare, BQA, and Beef Production – How Does It Fit Together”.
Mr. Brian Pugh, OSU Extension Agronomist, will provide an update on cedar control, broomsedge, and other plant pests.
The program concludes with Mr. Scott Clawson, OSU Ag Economist, providing an outlook on the beef cattle market for 2014.
The KOMA Beef Cattle Conference is a joint effort by the Extension Services in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas to provide participants of the beef cattle industry the latest information on production, marketing, economics, nutrition and forage utilization.
There will also be a Trade Show with numerous vendors with Ag products and services on hand for the day of activities. Farm equipment dealers, truck dealers, banks, feed companies, and animal health suppliers are among the early registrants for the Trade Show.

The Cattle Conference and Trade Show will conclude with an evening meal by the Green Country Cattlemen’s Association at 5:45 p.m. The registration fee is $20. Registration forms and additional information can be obtained at most county extension offices in northeast Oklahoma.
