State insurance commissioner to visit Pawhuska

Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak is scheduled to make second local visit in as many weeks on Monday, Nov. 4, when he holds a county tour meeting at the Pawhuska Business Center.

Doak, who spoke to the Pawhuska Kiwanis Club last Wednesday, will address issues related to the Health Insurance Marketplace, officials said.

A Tulsa native, Doak was elected in 2010 to become the state’s 12th insurance commissioner. The state-elected official apparently intends to make good on a campaign pledge that he would visit all 77 counties each year he is in office.

Under Doak’s leadership, the Oklahoma Insurance Department has taken an active role in reducing waste, streamlining services, and advocating on the behalf of Oklahoma citizens, according to an OID spokesperson.

“I’m a regulator with an opinion,” Doak said.

During the tour stops, Doak meets with members of local Chambers of Commerce, professional and civic organizations, business leaders, fire departments and other persons in the community, his office said.

“When I was first elected, I made a promise to represent the entire state of Oklahoma,” said Doak.

“By holding community outreach events, the (OID) is better able to understand consumers’ concerns,” he added. “We can also let them know what our office is doing on their behalf.”

Rebecca Ross, the outreach coordinator for Insure Oklahoma, is expected to also be present at the meeting. She will present information on the Affordable Care Act, officials said.
