Pawhuska Senior Citizen Center to close

Steadily declining attendance is being blamed for the recent decision to end activities early next month at the Pawhuska Senior Citizen Center.

The senior center, which has been a part of the local community for several decades, is expected to close after hosting one last function — the annual Lions Club Pancake Breakfast — on Saturday, Nov. 2.

In addition to a drop-off in the number of seniors eating noontime meals at the facility, there had been reduced interest shown in various crafts offered as part of the center’s fundraising efforts. Receipts from its annual Memorial Day Flower and Decorations sales had also shown significant declines, center officials said.

Board members from the senior center were to meet this week to discuss final plans regarding the closure.

The City of Pawhuska, which owns the building that provided a home for the center, had been contributing approximately $600 to defray electrical expenses needed to operate the facility.

Pawhuska Senior Center is located at 200 E. Palmer Ave. — across the parking lot behind the police station.
