Wynona bad weather report

The recent storms have been rough on some areas, but Wynona has only suffered minor wind damage, tree branches falling, etc. The Wynona Emergency Management Director, Jim Lott, is always out with other members of the fire department driving the area, constantly in touch with other weather spotters and news media. If they feel that the weather is bad enough, they will blow the tornado siren. The Town Hall is usually open at this time for those who want to take shelter someplace other than a mobile home. The Wynona Town Hall is NOT a storm shelter, however, in the past, folks have always come there for safety. We are trying to find funding or grant monies to get a safe building or shelter of some kind for the Wynona people to come to in bad weather. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, contact Town Hall!

Veteran representative at Wynona Town Hall Founders Day

In addition to the Friday visits with Lee Webb, Mr Webb is going to be setting up at the Alumni Museum on Founders Day from noon until 2 p.m. for those who need help with their VA Benefits. He says just come and bring your DD2-14!

Just a reminder that Lee Webb, is still coming to the Town Hall on Fridays from 11:30 until 12:30 to help Veterans with their benefits. This is a great opportunity for veterans and should be utilized by all that are qualified. Veterans are reminded that they can use their tax exempt card from the state to exempt taxes on their phone bills. Just contact your telephone provider for more details.

The original plan was to have an auction for the Founders Day Fund, but the group decided to have the auction benefit the Billy McGill family. Billy passed away on May 22, leaving two young sons and a wife. The proceeds from the auction will go to their fund to help them out with expenses. Everyone is encouraged to attend. We also need for lots of businesses and individuals to plan on having a float in the parade. We also are getting some pretty big boasting from Grillmasters, challenging people to come out and try to out grill them. It will be a fun and exciting day with so much fun packed in, everyone should be involved. People should also be planning and making their box cars if they are going to be in the races. The kid’s games will be earlier in the day than in the past to keep the turtles fresh and at their running best! The lunch will be provided once again by the famous Wild Country Meats in Hominy for $7 per plate, which includes a barbecue sandwich, baked beans and potato salad. A hot dog eating contest is also in the plans. We will be having two bands, Sean McGuire and Fat Tony at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Country Express Band at 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. The Wynona Alumni Association Museum will be open all day for Wynona Alum to stop by, visit, browse and cool off. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors, and plan to come and have fun with us on Founders Day!
