Osage County Commissioners choose Sally Hulse to serve unexpired term

Osage County has a new treasurer.

At last week’s County Commissioner’s meeting, Osage County Treasurer Joyce Hathcoat announced she will be retiring, effective June 30 this year. But because her term does not end until June 30, 2015, Hathcoat referenced Oklahoma statutes that give the commissioners the authority to appoint an interim replacement.

“I am requesting you do this as soon as possible, so my office can order new supplies and have banking procedures in place so everything is ready to when July 1 rolls around,” said Hathcoat.

“It has been a privilege and joy to serve the citizens of Osage County and work with Court House employees,” she said.

Commissioner Scot Hilton asked Hathcoat if the budget will be in place by June 30. After assuring him it would, Hathcoat recommended First Deputy Sally Hulse as her replacement.

“I’ve worked with Sally for over 26 years,” said Hathcoat. “She has been my First Deputy for at least 16 of those years and has done everything in my office. Sally would be a natural fit as my replacement.”

On May 20, the Commissioners unanimously approved Hulse to fill Hathcoat’s unexpired term as Osage County Treasurer. She will be officially sworn in on July 1 by Judge John Kane.

Hathcoat was elected to her position as County Treasurer in 1989. Hathcoat is looking forward to spending more time with her family and grandchildren and may do a little traveling on the side. A reception honoring Hathcoat will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the Community Center.
