FOUNDERS DAY

DRAWING NEAR

A parade, street dance and lots of other fun activities are in the works for Founders Day on Saturday, June 11, so make plans now to attend!

The parade starts at 10 a.m. and tortoise races, bullfrog races and other games for kids and adults will follow. Firefighters will begin serving a delicious $5 lunch (hamburger, fries and a drink) around 11 a.m. Lunch sales generate funding for the Wynona Volunteer Fire Department. Vendors are going to be operating booths throughout the day, and a softball game is set for 12:30 p.m.

A $5 dinner (barbecue sandwich, chips and a drink) goes on sale at 6 p.m., with those proceeds benefitting the Founders Day Fund. Karaoke is scheduled from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The Risky Business band will be featured at the street dance, which starts at 9 p.m. and lasts until 1 a.m.

A 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament is to be held Friday, June 10, at the new gym. The double-elimination tourney will costs $30 per team and is for ages 15 and up. There will be a $1 gate charge.

There will be Little Mister Wynona and Little Miss Wynona contests for three age groups — 0-2 years, 2-4 years and 4-6 years. Applications are available at DJ’s Burgers or from Monica Wadsworth at 918-519-6510. All applicants must be Wynona residents. Completed applications (including recent photos of the child contestants) should be submitted to DJ’s Burgers or Monica Wadsworth.

Cans with each of the contestants’ pictures on them will be placed at DJ’s Burgers and Wynona Stop Buy. The child with the most money in his/her can wins. Winners are to be announced after the Founders Day Parade. The cans are to be collected Friday, June 10, at 8 p.m. All Little Mister/Little Miss contestants are encouraged to be in the parade. Parents are responsible for providing their child’s float.

On the same Saturday, the Alumni Committee is hosting a banquet for former Wynona School students (not just the graduates). Committee members hope everyone contacts former classmates who may have not received invitations. Dinner for the alumni event will be at 6 p.m. Steak and chicken, with all the trimmings, is to be served by Bruce Hendren’s Boy Scout troop. Cost is $15 per person and reservations are appreciated. The park on Highway 99 will give alumni a place to sit around and reminisce.

CLEANUP REQUESTED

The Board of Trustees asks that all Wynona residents clean up around their residences before Founders Day. There will be a lot of guests visiting town, so they want everything to look as nice as possible.

VOUCHER DATE SET

Osage Nation Produce Vouchers will be given out from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, at Wynona Town Hall. Persons 55 and older are eligible to receive the vouchers. (A drivers license is needed for proof of age.) The vouchers can be used to obtain vegetables from vendors who are to be on site that same day.
