Children’s Musical Theatre to hold workshops, auditions

The enchanted adventure time will soon be here when local students ages 7-17 will audition for the chance to appear in the classic story “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.” The production will appear on the Bartlesville Community Center main stage July 14-17.

CMT is holding a pair of preparatory workshops to give local students an opportunity to develop their auditioning skills, whether this is their first audition or they’ve done this before. Students who will be ages 7-17 by Sept. 1, and live in an area within a 40-mile radius of Bartlesville, are eligible to audition.

Auditioning “Crash Course” workshops will be held this Saturday at the Bartlesville Community Center Studio Theatre.

The Beginning Audition workshop from 9:30 a.m.-noon will be helpful for all who wish to audition, but especially those doing it for the first time. Tips on what to expect from the audition process, learn more about being a part of a production, trying to improve their selection possibilities, plus a chance to learn some music and choreography from “Beauty and the Beast” will be included. The workshop fee of $5 may be paid at the door on the day of the workshop. No need to pre-register, but plan to arrive 15 minutes early to check-in.

The Advanced Audition workshop — “TAKE 2” — MOCK AUDITIONS will be held from 1-2:15 p.m. No preparation is necessary. Participants will learn about the first-round vocal solo process and are invited to bring a cell phone or video camera to have their mock audition recorded. They will get tips for improving and audition again. Those who have an audition song prepared can bring the accompaniment on CD, MP3, or sheet music. Cost is $5 collected at the door. Pre-registration is required. Contact CMT office at 918-336-0558 or cmtbart@swbell.net to register and class size is limited.

The actual auditions for “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” will be Feb. 17-21 at Temporary Central Middle School. Appointments for auditions may be made online at www.cmtonstage.com or calling 918-336-0558.

New this year, there will be an additional dancer — non-vocal — call audition. This year CMT will be having a special first-round dancer call audition slot for dancers who would prefer not to do a one-on-one singing audition.

Dancers who would like to be considered for a dance ensemble position instead of a singer role may audition on Friday, Feb. 19. Dance auditioners who pass this first dance round will be invited to the first-round of callbacks on Saturday morning where they will sing in a group, with music taught from the show. They might also be called for a round of advanced dance callback on Saturday afternoon.
