Set goals to live healthier in 2016 with Shape Your Future

OKLAHOMA CITY — Want to find out what kinds of resolutions to make to be healthier this New Year? Take the Shape Your Future “Goal Getter” quiz at www.shapeyourfutureok.com to find tips that are right for each person’s lifestyle in 2016.

Before the ball drops this New Year’s Eve, residents can find out if they are a Keeper-Upper, a Substituter or a Ready-Set-Goer and learn more about the simple tips that are tailored to work for them. From taking the stairs to doing yoga, Shape Your Future offers tips for all fitness levels in the New Year.

Shape Your Future is a statewide campaign sponsored by the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust and the Oklahoma State Department of Health, with the goals of encouraging Oklahomans to eat better, move more and be tobacco-free.

This year, Shape Your Future encourages Oklahoma adults to meet their New Year’s goals for getting physical activity every day. Just 30 minutes a day for adults and 60 minutes a day for kids, helps families helps reduce the risk of high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol and type 2 diabetes.

Power up the New Year by filling half your plate with fruits and veggies this year and choose fresh water over sugary beverages.

“Small changes add up,” said Tracey Strader, executive director of TSET. “Put on some music and dance with the kids, and try adding fruits and veggies to every meal for a weekend let each family member choose a favorite vegetable. Make one healthy choice at a time this New Year. And before you know it, your entire family will be helping to set healthy new goals.”
