Osage youth show strong at Junior Livestock event

Dozens of Osage County youth exhibited hundreds of livestock projects that brought thousands of dollars at auction last week during the 80th-annual Osage County Junior Livestock Show at the indoor arena of the fairgrounds.

Exhibitors from Tuesday through Friday were rewarded for the efforts when public bids were received for their entries in the cattle, swine, sheep and goat divisions at the Friday night auction.

Pawhuska-area youth representing the Bluestem, Bowring and Blue & Gold 4-H clubs and Pawhuska FFA were among those receiving top honors.

For the second year in a row, the Grand Champion Market Steer entry belonged to Trent Barnett, a Pawhuska High School senior from Bowring. Tanner Kyler of the Bluestem club had the Grand Champion Breeding Heifer and Bluestem’s Cooper Kyler entered the Reserve Grand Champion.

Swine Division winners included Hayden Renfrow of Barnsdall, who was a repeat winner for Market Barrow Grand Champion. Reserve Champion in that division was Renfrow’s cousin, PHS freshman Kienan Cheves of the Blue & Gold club.

Winners in the Sheep Classes included Kelsey Hight of Hominy for Grand Champion Breeding Ewe, reserve champion lamb and breed champion Hampshire, and Britton Howell of Barnsdall with the reserve champion ewe. Bradon Berry of Bluestem was named senior champion lamb showman and Gracie Howell of Barnsdall won the junior reserve showman award.

Goat winners included T.K. Fisher of Hominy for reserve champion, heavyweight meat goat, heavyweight breeding doe reserve champion and senior showmanship. Bradon Berry of Bluestem had the lightweight meat goat reserve champion.
