WYNONA SCHOOL NOTES

Submitted by

Superintendent Dixie Hurd

February has flown past!

The Naep tests and the 5th and 8th grade writing tests are completed for this year. Things are moving on. Thank you parents for getting your children to school and ready to test. The rest of the state testing will be completed in April.

The third quarter of school will conclude on March 13. There is no school that day to make up the day for parent conferences that were held in the evenings. Spring Break is March 16-20! There are two weeks left to get all work completed and grades up to where they should be.

Our girls’ spring softball team has started preparing for the season. The first game will be March 9 at Prue. The first home game will be March 10 against Shidler. Even though the field is in plain view of the highway, we will be taking a gate at these games to help offset the cost of the umpire. Adults will be $4 and students will be $2. Our local senior citizens (65 and older) are always welcome to attend free of charge! Please pay at the concession stand. We will use the honor system. We really appreciate your help and support with this!

We want to wish Jacob Looney well in his first Braille Challenge. He will be competing on Friday, March 6. Go Jacob!

Congratulations to our Wynona Spelling Bee winners! Desi Rikard was the 5th and 6th spelling bee winner and Sunshine Armer was the runner up. In the 7th and 8th grade, Drake Rikard was the winner Lynzee Parker as runner up. These students are to be commended on their spelling and we wish them luck on the next round!

WELCOME, CHIEF BRIAN AND BILLIE LENINGTON!

Wynonans are happy to welcome our new Police Chief Brian Lenington and his wife, Billie Sue, to Wynona. Lenington was an officer in Wynona in 1998-99. He has been working several places in the past 16 years, but says he has now come full circle. He is a full time officer, which Wynona has not had in several years. We are happy to have Brian and Billie Sue as part of our community!
