OSU Extension offers 2 classes

Donna RobbinsOSU Cooperative Extension Educator

Two upcoming OSU Extension classes will be offered in Osage County. The first class, Co-Parenting for Resilience is a program for parents experiencing separation and/or divorce and those who may be seeking custody, visitation or paternity of minor children.

Because divorce can cause numerous problems for children, Oklahoma judges are requiring divorcing parents to attend a co-parenting workshop before their divorce will be granted. Co-Parenting for Resilience refers to strategies divorcing parents can use to help their children to be “resilient,” or to bounce back from the effects of a divorce and return to a normal life more quickly.

Dates offered in Osage County: Feb. 12, March 9 and April 13.

All seminars are held on Monday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Osage County Interlocal Cooperative located at 207 E. Main in Hominy. Cost of this seminar is $30. Registration packets are available online at http://co-parenting.okstate.edu or by calling Donna Robbins at the Osage County Extension Office 918-287-4170.

The second class being offered is Second Time Around, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. Today’s grandparent is more involved in “kinship care” than ever before. One in ten children are living with a grandparent. Many grandparents view their parenting situation as temporary. For some it is not.

This class will help you realize you are NOT alone. We will discuss changing roles from an affectionate grandparent to a parent who provides structure and discipline, physical and emotional well-being, additional financial responsibility and legal concerns. You will meet others who are having the same issues you are having raising grandchildren. What a great way to meet others and to have support in this area.

Dates offered in Osage County: Jan. 29, Feb. 5, Feb. 12, Feb. 19, Feb. 27, March 12, and March 19.

All seminars are held at the Osage County Health Department, 1115 E 15th Street, Pawhuska. Classes are from 1 to 2 p.m. Classes are free.
