Thursday event to feature Osage photos, history
The Osage Tribal Museum will sponsor an exciting evening of photography, history and fellowship on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, from 6 - 9 pm. The event will feature photographs from the collections of the Osage Tribal Museum and the Western History Collections of the University of Oklahoma.
The community is invited to assist in the identification of the people, places and dates of the events preserved in these photographs.
This event is part of the efforts of the Osage Tribal Museum and the Sam Noble Museum, University of Oklahoma to develop an exhibition and publication on Osage weddings. We also wish to explore the incorporation of “brides” in the paying for the drum ceremonies of the Elonshka dances.
Organizers invite community members to bring photographs and stories “to share as we discuss these fascinating aspects of Osage culture and history.”
The Osage Tribal Museum will also sponsor a photography “studio” for individuals and families. This is an opportunity to obtain a family portrait and build the collection of contemporary tribal members. Drop in for some light refreshments, view some photographs and contribute to the development of a museum exhibition.
The museum is located at 819 Grandview Avenue in Pawhuska.
