The month of September flew by us! The end of the quarter will be Oct. 10. Fall break is Oct. 13-17.

We have a new procedure this year and students who have missing assignments or who have discipline issues can be given after school detention. The time for detention is 3:45 - 5 p.m. Parents should pick up their children promptly at 5. The detention room is in the elementary building. Students will exit the building through the south doors at 5. We appreciate the support and cooperation of our students’ parents!

The Osage Home Health has been coming to Wynona Town Hall for quite some time now to take blood pressure and blood sugars. She comes on the first of the month or the first day that follows if the first comes on a weekend. This is a good thing for Wynonans, even if they take their readings at home, because one can come to Town Hall and verify that their personal readings are correct. We appreciate the Osage Home Health for helping out our town!

The Wynona Fire Department is firing up the grill to cook some great food from 4-7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the park across from The Store. They are trying to raise money to do some upgrades on fire equipment. For $6, they will serve a hamburger or cheeseburger or hot dog with 2 sides — choice of chips, baked beans or tater salad — a dessert and a drink. Plan now to come and bring the family out for a delicious meal. It is a probability that the great cooking team of Jim Lott and Jody Slone will be manning the grill. They are notorious for their delicious grilled foods. Come and give them the taste test and see if you agree. Any additional donations to the Wynona Volunteer Fire Department will be greatly appreciated.

Lee Webb, VFW Service Officer, is still coming to the Town Hall from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Fridays to help veterans with their benefits. Every Friday Lee will be at the Pawhuska Community Center from 9 - 11 a.m., in Wynona from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and in Hominy from 1 - 2 p.m. Lee will also be at Cleveland at the City Hall from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. on Fridays, as well.

Wynonans offer their condolences to the many family members and friends of Barbara Herd, who passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 24. Barbara was a champion of the Town of Wynona, supporting every event that came up. She was also an avid member of the Alumni Association, always going above and beyond the needs. Many will always remember her delicious brisket sandwiches that she made for bake sales and fundraisers. If Wynona had any type of fundraisers, Barbara was always there to help or organize the event. She was also a woman who loved her family and wasn’t afraid to show it. We will all miss her!

Trick or Treat in Wynona will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30. This is the first time we have had the later hours and it will give people more time to get around. Also, we are having it on the 30th, Thursday, instead of Friday, the 31st, because of all the events going on all around us.
