Run the Streets Woolaroc 8k to benefit local youth mentoring program

The Run the Streets Woolaroc 8k committee is gearing up for the race’s 34th year, slated for Oct. 11 at Woolaroc Wildlife Preserve. RTS is Washington County’s premier youth running and mentoring program. Their mission is to challenge at-risk youth to experience the benefits of goal-setting, character development, adult mentoring and improved health by providing them with a truly life changing experience; the training for and competition of a half-marathon.

The Woolaroc 8k is the annual fundraiser for RTS and all proceeds go directly to benefit the youth participants each season. Each youth is provided with all the things necessary to be successful in a half marathon including running shoes, race shirt and fees, transportation and a volunteer adult mentor.

“The RTS Woolaroc 8k provides a unique venue that’s not to be missed by any level of runner,” said race coordinator, Janet Hardy. “Not only is an exciting course but it also benefits such a great cause. Whether you’re a walker, training for your first 8k or a seasoned runner, this race is for everyone. It’s the only race I know of where you can run with bison!”

Sponsorship opportunities are available. If an individual or business is interested, contact Hardy at for more information.

Hardy said, “We hope everyone will plan to come out and support RTS. This program is changing lives of youth in Washington County and we want everyone to play a part in the success of our youth.”

Race registration is open for both the timed 8k race and the 1-mile fun run by visiting See for more information on RTS.
