Osage Nation donates exhibit cases to Historical Society Museum

On July 31, 2014, Osage Nation Principal Chief Geoffrey Standingbear and Assistant Chief Raymond Red Corn made a contribution of nine exhibit cases to the Osage County Historical Society Museum. The exhibit cases are 7’x7’x3’ with fiber-optic lightning. The museum-quality exhibit cases will enhance and improve the preservation of the artifacts that are being displayed at OCHS Museum.

The exhibit case contribution to OCHS Museum exemplifies the continuing community support for Pawhuska and the surrounding communities fostered by the Osage Nation.

These cases will join three other custom-built display cases designed and donated by the late historian John T. Moncravie that are housed in the John T. Moncravie Osage Room. The larger of these cases was created for an extremely rare Osage warrior lance, among other historical Osage artifacts.

OCHS Museum Director Barbara Pease said, “We appreciate so much the bond between the Osage Nation and the Osage Tribal Museum. Together, we are preserving our County’s rich history.”

The OCHS Museum’s mission is the collection, preservation and publication of historical artifacts, papers and pictures. Pease said, “With our beautifully restored climate-controlled facility, we would like anyone associated with Osage County to share treasured memories they would like to preserve.

“We are working nonstop to ready the new display cases for our vast collection of artifacts. The OCHS Museum will be holding an open house, hopefully in early fall, to honor Osage Nation Principal Chief Standingbear, Assistant Chief Red Corn and the Osage people for their generous contribution.
