Parents Nights set for baseball, soccer
Senior nights will be observed Friday during the final regular-season home appearances of Pawhuska High School’s baseball and soccer teams.
The PHS baseball squad will play a home game versus the Caney Valley Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Huskie seniors and their parents will be recognized in a ceremony at the local diamond complex.
Pawhuska senior players include Tyler Culver, Trevor Easley, Zalin Edwards, Donovan Guy, Connor McNeil, Kylar Moody, Kendall Oller, Taylor Priest and Bryce Wilson.
Through last weekend, Coach Brian Edwards’ Pawhuska team had compiled a 13-6 record and was chosen to host the Adair Warriors next week in a best-of-three-game series for a Class 3A district title. The district opener begins at 3 p.m.
At 5 p.m. Friday, the Lady Huskies will meet the Miami Lady Wardogs in a key district soccer match at Ormand Beach Memorial Stadium. Pawhuska senior players are to be introduced with their parents as a part of the scheduled festivities.
Senior members of the Lady Huskies include Morgan Waddle, Kaytlyn Swan, Anna Schroeder, Dava Daylight, Carlie Culver and Kailsey Cheves.
Under first-year Coach Giovanie Soriano, the PHS girls have won seven of eight matches and are 2-1 in district action.
A district contest is to be played Thursday at Tulsa Rogers before the Lady Huskies wrap up their regular slate against Miami. With state soccer playoffs due to begin next week, Pawhuska and Miami currently are tied for second place in the District 4A-5 standings.
The other spring sport at Pawhuska High School — track and field — will host its own big event on Monday, April 28, when the Huskie and Lady Huskie squads of Coach Mark Frye host the Big Eight Conference Meet at Ormand Beach Memorial Stadium.
Start time for the meet is 4:15 p.m. and a $2 admission fee will be charged. In addition to Pawhuska, teams from the conference include Blackwell, Hominy, Newkirk, Pawnee, Perry, Tonkawa and Woodland.
“There should be some very good individual matchups,” Frye said.
