OSU Extension to hold pecan grafting, management workshop

The OSU Extension office in Osage County is conducting a three-hour workshop on pecan production and grafting young pecan trees with improved varieties.

The workshop is scheduled to be held from 3-6 p.m. May 1 at the home of Dr. Michael Ben, D.D.S., near Fairfax. From the intersection of Highway 20 and Highway 18, go east to the first driveway on the north side of Highway 20. A map will be available on the Osage County OSU Extension office website to assist.

During the workshop, attendees will learn from the globally renowned KSU Pecan Research & Extension Specialist Dr. Bill Reid on grafting techniques, varieties of pecans, and orchard management and fertilization. More on Dr. Reid can be seen on his blog at http://northernpecans.blogspot.com.

Also attending the workshop to discuss the pecan market will be Chad Selman of S & S Pecans in Skiatook.
