Nominations being accepted for 2014 Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame
The Oklahoma Military Heritage Foundation is accepting nominations through June 1 for inductees into the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame.
Oklahoma veterans including Medal of Honor recipients have been being honored by the hall of fame since 1999.
A banquet and ceremony honoring those selected this year for the hall of fame will be held Nov. 8 at the Tower Hotel, formerly Marriott Hotel, at 3233 Northwest Expressway in Oklahoma City, said Brad Gambill, president of the foundation.
Selection to the military hall of fame is based on a combination of exemplary military service and community contributions.
Ten veterans will be honored this year. They will include two Medal of Honor recipients and a veteran selected for the Major General Douglas O. Dollar Distinguished Service Award. A native Oklahoman, Dollar served in Vietnam and later was in the 95th Division.
Nominees can be living or deceased.
Also military rank of nominees has no bearing on selections. Past honorees have come from all ranks — enlisted and officer.
Nomination forms can be obtained by writing to the Oklahoma Military Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 30658, Edmond, OK 73003. Forms are also available on the foundation’s web site at www.okmhf.org.
