Hearts & Hands quilt on display during Holy Week services

This beautiful hand-pieced quilt is currently on display at the Methodist Family Life Center in Pawhuska. The quilt features a bargello-style pattern called Ebb & Flow and was created for Pawhuska’s annual Hearts & Hands project.

Jody Bracken of the Immaculate Conception Altar Society crafted this masterpiece.

“I found the pattern in a magazine,” said Bracken. “I checked with the designer to make sure it was okay to use the pattern for Hearts & Hands. It is usually a given that non-profit fundraising is okay, but I believe it’s good manners, in case they see a photo or something popping up on social media.”

Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and available from Dean Shoemate or Debbie Reed. They will also be available during Holy Week services which are being held at the Family Life Center at 621 Leahy and again on April 26th between 8-8:30 a.m.

This is the official Hearts & Hands work day. Volunteers will gather at the Family Life Center for a light breakfast before heading out to the job sites. Drawing for the quilt will be held at noon when the workers reassemble for lunch at the same location.

Seven homes will be assisted this year and team captains will be announced at the Volunteers Dinner along with the project homes.

Currently, there are eight congregations actively involved. This is a Ministerial Alliance ministry and all churches help support Hearts and Hands in some way.

The project has been going on for 15 years. It started with one home repaired by the members of the First Presbyterian Church.

Rev. Ken Woodhams, director of this year’s Hearts and Hands, says he is thankful to the people and businesses that have helped in a variety of ways and for all the community interest generated by this annual neighbor helping neighbor event services which are being held at the Family Life Center at 621 Leahy.

Quilt raffle tickets can be bought from Debbie Reed or Dean Shoemate.
