ESA style shows draws crowd

A large crowd attended the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) style show on April 7. The event was held in the Methodist Family Life Center in Pawhuska.

Talented musician Lou Brock of Pawnee provided dinner music. Spring-time decorations by Barbara McVey created a perfect venue for the fashion show. Pastor Kathy Morris gave the invocation. The buffet table was overflowing with colorful and tempting salads and desserts. Outstanding and unique door prizes were awarded to ten lucky winners.

ESA President Debbie Reed welcomed the crowd and gave a little bit of history about this philanthropic organization.

“ESA began in Pawhuska on July 24, 1961. Our members are united by the desire to make a difference in the lives of others, as well as our own,” said Reed. “ESA is probably best known for our flag project. For over four decades, flags are displayed no less than twelve times a year. In addition, ESA supports Hearts and Hands, Ministerial Alliance, Help Works, Christ Cupboard, Special Olympics, Youth Services, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and nursing home activities. We provide Christmas baskets along with toys and clothing for children. ESA helps with the school supply project and Back Pack Program. We also sponsor an annual scholarship for a PHS Senior and contribute to the Kevin Manering Scholarship.

“This past year, 25-26 members gave 3,162 hours volunteer hours. Our combined service and mileage is equivalent to $10,207.52.”

Style show fashions were provided by Osage Outfitters and Lowry’s in Pawhuska, The Funky Pearl from Barnsdall, and The Bag Lady from Ponca City. Models included men, women and children with something for everyone one.

Located at 519 Kihekah in Pawhuska, the Osage Outfitters is owned Joey and Callie Lee.

Locally owned Lowry’s is located at 217 W. Main in Pawhuska.

The Funky Pearl is located at 518 W. Main in Barnsdall and is owned by Billie Kelly. The Bag Lady is located at 205 E. Grand in Ponca City and is owned by Terron Liles.
