Season to Taste
Isn’t it sad how our levels of emotional excitability have a tendency to decrease as we age? It seems as though we shove back our inner child and replace it with a terminally serious adult.
When I taught first graders, the entire room could become deliriously unwound simply because I told them I was going to call the lunch roll by using their last names rather than their first. Can you think, “happier than a bird with a french fry?” I have said it before and I will say it again, there are some people out there in this world who would not risk a good belly laugh if their life depended upon it.
I wonder if the following quote would make them pause to consider or if it could stimulate them to at least attempt a grin? “What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.” Now seriously, why spend it being crabby?
Recently, my Daddy bought me a new Ninja slow cooker! Remember that bird I mention,…yep, I got myself a french fry!
Put a Smile On Your Face Easiest Ever Roast
1 boneless, beef chuck roast (3 or 4 pounds)
*Coat the entire roast in 1/4 cup of flour and then quickly sear it in hot oil. When it is lightly browned on all sides remove and place it in your slow cooker. (In a Ninja, you get to do this step IN THE COOKER)
Add 1-sliced onion along with two cans of beef consommé and 1 can of water. Set the cooker to low and simmer for 6-8 hours or set it on high and simmer for 4 and 1/2 to 5 hours.
To serve: Cook some rice according to the size of your family. I used white rice….YES ,WHITE! Serving from individual bowls, add some cooked rice, some of the meat that you have shredded and a dipper/ladle of the broth over the top. Hit it with some black pepper and then see if that doesn’t put some happy in your day.
