Pawhuska couple to speak at Pilot Club Antiques & Sale Show

Joe and Arlena Trumbly, owners of Clifton’s Art & Jewelry in Pawhuska, will be featured presenters Friday, April 12, when the Pilot Club of Bartlesville launches its annual Antique & Sale Show.

The event will be held at the Bartlesville Community Center located at Adams and Cherokee street. The show will continue through the weekend, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday. For the convenience of its guests, the Pilot Club Light Café will be open throughout the event.

The Trumbly’s program will begin at 11 a.m. and focus on Native American Art and traditional items. As a member of the Osage Nation and long-time Osage County resident, Joe will discuss his culture along with other area tribes. Clifton’s history dates back to 1890 when it was a Kaw City Indian trading post on the Arkansas River. The trading post followed the Osages to Pawhuska in the early 1900s. For a number of years, Clifton’s served the community as a souvenir gift shop. Most recently, it was reopened as an upscale art gallery and gift shop.

Ed White of Bartlesville will be Saturday’s featured speaker. Beginning at 11 a.m., White will talk about celluloid figural tape measures. While casings for tape measures first appeared in the 17th century, his presentation will focus on more modern tape measures made during the 1920s– 1950s. White’s collection of over 30 figural tape measurers will be on display during his talk.

Much like the popular TV program, “Antiques Road Show,” verbal appraisals will be available daily from 1 - 4 p.m. For a nominal fee, Certified Appraiser John West will have a certified appraiser available. Pilot Club will be featuring its own version of the Antiques Road Show when

A popular feature of the Antiques Show & Sale is the return of Certified Appraiser John West. West will be available daily from 1 -4 p.m. to identify and give verbal appraisals for a nominal fee.

The Pilot Club is celebrating its 39th year of sponsoring this widely popular event. The vast array of quality antiques attracts dealers and collectors from across the United States. The show will feature a estate jewelry, fine china, silver, furniture, pottery, art, vintage glass, linens, quilts, coins, American Indian artifacts, American art pottery, Persian rugs, sewing notions, vintage clothing, hats, brass and copper, primitives, and more.

Making their debut this year will be Patricia and Rory Evans Antiques from McLouth, Kansas. The Evans collection will feature American art pottery, signed Rookwood pottery, bronzes, hand-carved nutcrackers, porcelains, and original cast iron doorstops and bookends.

The Pilot Light Café will be serving chicken and noodles, soups, sandwiches, and desserts, including homemade fruit and cream pies, all three days. Door prizes will also be drawn throughout the day.

The Pilot Club’s mission is to further the education, research, and programs benefiting those affected by neurological diseases and injuries to the brain. Their annual spring and Fall Antiques & Sale shows are the Club’s primary fund-raising projects. Monies raised help fund brain-related disorders and disabilities.
