The children of David L. Reed — victim of a shooting on Oct. 10, 2011 — have established a memorial fund to provide an annual scholarship in his honor in their hometown of Skiatook.

Reeds’ children wanted to ensure his memory will live on by helping a Skiatook senior each year.

His passions in life included his family, farming, sports and helping others.

The memorial scholarship criteria is based on these passions and will be awarded to a college-bound SHS senior. For information on applying, check with the SHS counseling office. The deadline is May 1. The scholarship winner will be announced at the SHS Senior Assembly on May 6.

To contribute to his memorial fund, donations are accepted at any Bank of Oklahoma or RCB Bank location under the David L. Reed Memorial Fund. For information, contact Ande Golden-Reed by email at andegoldenreed@yahoo.com or via phone at 918-852-9794.

The criminal case related to Reed’s death is still ongoing.
