Streams to check out: ‘Hamilton’ and other plays
The Broadway smash hit "Hamilton" will make its TV/streaming debut on Disney+ starting July 3. Unlike other Broadway shows that have been adapted for film, Disney’s version of "Hamilton" is a professionally filmed version of the Broadway show and was filmed over three live performances in 2016 with the original cast members.
Here are a few other plays shows that will be available for streaming this month:
When: Through July 9
Synopsis: Yaël Farber directs this 2016 production of Lorraine Hansberry's final play, filmed at the National Theatre in London. Danny Sapani plays Tshembe, a man who has returned home from England for his father’s funeral, to an African country teetering on the edge of civil war.
When: July 8-14
Synopsis: Joe Penhall's play about a young songwriter and producer who go to battle over who owns a hit song. Roger Michell directed the production, which played at London's Old Vic in 2018. The cast includes Ben Chaplin, Pip Carter, Kurt Egyiawan, Seána Kerslake, Jemma Redgrave, and Neil Stuke.
"The Deep Blue Sea"
When: July 9-16
Synopsis: Helen McCrory stars in this 2016 National Theatre production of Terence Rattigan's play, directed by Carrie Cracknell.
When: July 10-Sept. 8
Synopsis: Kelli O’Hara and Nathan Gunn star in the New York Philharmonic’s 2013 production of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. The cast also includes Stephanie Blythe, Shuler Hensley, Jason Danieley, Jessie Mueller, Kate Burton, John Cullum, Robert Fairchild, and Tiler Peck.

Synopsis: Lucian Msamati plays Salieri opposite Adam Gillen as Mozart in this 2018 National Theatre production of Peter Shaffer's play, directed by Michael Longhurst.

Synopsis: A Great Performances broadcast of Holland Taylor's play about Texas governor Ann Richards.
"Gloria: A Life"
When: Through July 24
Synopsis: A Great Performances broadcast of Emily Mann's play about writer, organizer, and activist Gloria Steinem. Christine Lahti stars in the title role.
"Much Ado About Nothing"
When: July 24-Sept. 11
Synopsis: Danielle Brooks, Grantham Coleman, Chuck Cooper star in the 2019 Public Theatre Shakespeare in the Park production.
When: July 31-Aug. 28
Synopsis: Kevin Kline, Kate Burton, Cobie Smuthers, and Kristine Nielsen star in the 2017 revival of Noël Coward’s comedy.
