Constantine presents Hank Williams tribute show

Country music’s greatest legend, Hank Williams Sr., will come to life Saturday evening, June 1, on the stage of Pawhuska’s historic Constantine Theater.

The “Hankerin’ 4 Hank” concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Hank Williams grew up working honky-tonks throughout the south before joining the Louisiana Hayride in 1948. A year later, he became a regular on the Grand Ole Opry. His popularity skyrocketed over the next two years as he scored hit after hit. After being fired from the Opry in August 1952, Williams returned to the Hayride. He died on Jan. 1, 1953, in the back seat of his Cadillac en route to an engagement in Ohio.

“Hankerin’ 4 Hank” promises to hold true to the legendary artist’s original arrangements as the concert musicans take a step back in time to present Hank Williams’ tunes in the style that he wrote them. Concert-goers will experience the look and sound of Hank Williams as he performed in 1951. Hankerin’ 4 Hank provides the “Drifting Cowboy” sound that backed Hank, complete with the doghouse bass, honky-tonk guitar and pedal steel that so much defined the music of that era.

“Hank Williams Tribute show and videos are as realistic and authentic as I could ever imagine. The voice, the band, the wardrobe. It’s all there, just like it really was.” says Bobby Koefer, Texas Playboy steel player.

In addition to the authentic sound, clothing for the tribute will be original creations by Manuel — made especially for this project. Manuel was a young clothier working at Nudie’s Rodeo Tailors of Hollywood and he worked on all the original Hank Williams Sr. suits.

“The word for this show is ‘authentic,’ both musically and spiritually, it comes out in every note played and line sung.” says John Wooley, renowned author and music critic
