OSU Extension Service director excited about new office building
Work is wrapping up on the new Oklahoma State University Extension office, located at 1039 Old Highway 99, just east of the Osage County Fairgrounds in Pawhuska.
The cooperative extension service office will be an expanded facility for agriculture education, 4-H programs, family and consumer science services, and horticulture.
Donna Robbins, OSU Extension Service director for Osage County, said the group is excited to move in.
“This is going to be a bigger, better and new facility for us and the community to learn more about our programs that we offer,” Robbins said. “We are very grateful to the Osage County Commissioners for building this new building for us.”
For several years, the OSU Cooperative Extension Office has been located on the second floor of the building at 628 Kihekah Avenue in downtown Pawhuska. Robbins said the extension service grew out of the space and needed updated facilities to continue growing.
“Being so much closer to the fairgrounds is going to be such a huge benefit for us,” Robbins said. “We use the Ag building quite a bit out at the fair and having this new facility so close will make it easier and better for us to move items.”
The expanded building is large enough where many of the programs that OSU Extension Service offers can be held in the new location.
Groundbreaking on the building was toward the end of 2016. Robbins said crews have been working tirelessly to get the construction started and now, it is almost finished.
“There are a couple of items to complete inside the building, and we still need to get the concrete for the parking lot poured, but we are excited to get in the building,” Robbins said.
On Monday, the Osage County Commissioners approved a payment of $65,891.81 to Oakridge Builders for work being completed on the new OSU Extension building. The commissioners said there is still some work to be done to correct staining on the concrete floor of the building, and at least one more payment will come due in the future after the work is done.
