The Pawhuska Board of Education is scheduled to meet at noon Friday, June 5, and hold an executive session in which it will make several staffing decisions.
The meeting agenda shows the board will vote, following its executive session, whether to hire Talby Justus to be the new varsity boys basketball coach and a secondary school teacher, and whether to hire Lori Justus as secondary school principal.
If the board votes to hire Talby Justus as coach, he will replace Jake Christenson, a Pawhuska High graduate who led the Huskies to an Area Tournament berth last season.
Justus, a Stillwater native, has been working as associate head coach of the women's basketball program at the University of Texas at Arlington. His duties for the Lady Mavericks have included scouting, recruiting, and academic monitoring.
Justus has also worked as a high school boys basketball coach in Oklahoma. In 2006, he was one of four finalists for Oklahoma Boys Basketball Coach of the Year.
Justus played high school basketball at Pawnee for his father, Coach Harley Justus. Talby Justus went on to play college basketball at Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, and at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas.
The Pawhuska board's Friday agenda reflects other important personnel choices, as well.
The board is scheduled to consider hiring a new principal for Indian Camp Elementary School, and consider the retention of Chris Walker as athletic director and high school assistant principal.
