WEWOKA —Head coach Josh Forsythe could be excused for not being overly ecstatic Friday night after his Dale girls upended Wewoka 53-44.
The Lady Pirates, ranked third in Class 2A, were outscored 30-24 in the second half after possessing a 29-14 intermission advantage.
Mikayla Rutland headed Dale’s scoring with 16 points, including three field goals from beyond the 3-point line. Two of her treys came in the third quarter.
Claire Chastain, like Rutland a senior, aided the cause with 9 points while teammate Brenlee Sheppard finished with 8 points, including one 3-pointer.
Wewoka knocked down nine 3-point shots, five of which came in the closing half.
Dale was efficient at the free-throw stripe, hitting 15 of 18 for 83.3 percent.
Chastain converted all four of her free throws, Rutland was 5 of 6 from the line and Sheppard finished at 3 of 4.
Dale never trailed, sprinting to an 18-8 lead after one quarter.
The Lady Pirates (21-3) will conclude the regular season Monday at Newcastle.
Dale will play host to a district tournament Friday, Feb. 16 and Saturday, Feb. 17. Pawhuska and Rejoice Christian will tangle Friday with the victor taking on Dale Saturday.
A 31-point production by Darrien Roberts carried Wewoka to a 72-45 victory over Dale.
Roberts recorded 29 points in the opening half, including four 3-point field goals, as Wewoka raced out to a 41-27 advantage.
Dale (13-11) had captured seven straight victories prior to Friday.
Logan Woodruff was Dale’s leading scorer with 18 points, including one 3-point field goal.
Gabe Gouge added 8 points for the Pirates while Brady Johnson sank two 3-point field goals.
Dale went just 9 of 18 from the charity stripe. Wewoka was 9 of 12 for 75 percent.
