Robert Lee Ward passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 at the Cimarron Pointe Care Center, Mannford, Okla. He was 87 years old.

Robert was born September 22, 1925 in Leach, Okla., the son of Lester and Florence Pauline (Smith) Ward. He lived with his parents until his 6th grade year of school. At that time, he and his mother moved to Arizona, where Robert graduated from Wickenberg High School.

A Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. During that time, he served on five ships: SS James Swishell, Sacajawea, Umatilla, Henry White and David Gaylord. Following the service, Robert was employed with General Motors before his retirement.

Surviving are step-daughter Beverly Herndon and husband, Don, of Wheaton, Mo.; grandchilden, Jeff Hiteman of Wheaton, Mo., Carrie Vickers and husband, David, of Rayton, Mo.; gour great-grandchildren; brother Don Ward of Mannford, Okla.; cousin Sandra RedCorn and husband, Wakon, of Pawhuska; as well as other family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 28, in the Pawhuska City Cemetery. Rev. Scott Kohnley, Osage Indian Baptist Church of Pawhuska, will officiate. Interment will follow. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 198.
