BLOOD DRIVE ON THURSDAY

A Community Blood Drive is to be held from 1-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, at the Pawhuska Elks Lodge.

The Oklahoma Blood Institute is sponsoring the "St. Patrick’s Day" event. Blood Donor Challenge T-shirts are to be given out while the supply lasts.

SOCCER FUNDS SOUGHT

The Pawhuska High School soccer team will host an Indian Taco fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. this Saturday, March 19, at Buffalo Joe’s Restaurant, 403 E. Main St.

EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY APPLICATIONS

The W.E.L.A. Early Learning Academy I is accepting applications the week of March 21-25 at 1421 Grandview in Pawhuska.

Several items — proof of income, immunization record, birth certificate, Social Security Card, CDIB/Membership Card (if claiming Indian decent, health insurance card — must accompany the application.

W.E.L.A. (Head Start) is a preschool program that focuses on kindergarten readiness for all children, including those with disabilities.

Children must be 3 on or before Sept. 1.

BRIDGE FEST SET APRIL 16

The 8th annual Bridge to Friendship Bridge Fest for P.E.O. sisters and friends will be held at 10 a.m. April 16 at the Velma B. Oakes Family Life Center.

The tournament fee is $25 and covers breakfast rolls, coffee and tea, snacks and drinks throughout the day as well as lunch. There are two levels of play — seasoned and beginners — in the four game contract progressive bridge tournament.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first- and second-place winners in each level.

STEALS AND DEALS SLATED APRIL 9

The United Methodist Women are sponsoring Steals and Deals from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 9 at the Methodist Church Family Life Center. The spring cleaning sale will include the categories of bed and bath, living room, office, outdoors, tools, holidays, books, tapes and records and video games.

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH SCHEDULES EVENTS

The Pawhuska First Baptist Church is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 26, at the Cultural Park gazebo. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. The hunt is scheduled for 11 a.m., and is for children up to age 12. Food and drinks will be available. For more information, visit www.pawhuskafbc.org.

The Mobile Museum of Earth History will be at Pawhuska First Baptist Church, 302 E. Sixth, at 10:45 a.m. April 3 and 6:30 p.m. April 4-6, with its exhibit on the truth about dinosaurs. Full-sized dinosaur skeletons will be displayed amidst dramatic settings, according to a flier about the event.

CASA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Osage County volunteers are needed to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates and speak for abused and neglected children.

There are currently more than 45 children needing assistance in the state and tribal court systems. Approximately 30 of these are of Osage/Native American descent.

TRADITIONS VIEWED

Osage Book Club will be continuing its discussion of traditional Osage stories collected by ethnologist Francis LaFlesche during its luncheon meeting on Friday, March 18.

The meeting is scheduled to last from noon to 1 p.m. at the First National Bank Building, located at 100 W. Main St. in historic downtown Pawhuska.

WINNER WILL GET GLOCK

A new .40-caliber Glock 22 Gen 4 handgun will be given away in a drawing to be held Tuesday, March 22.

IRISH DINNER ON TAP

Shidler United Methodist Church is to host a St. Patrick’s Day Dinner from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday (March 17).

EASTER EGG HUNT SET

Fairfax Chamber of Commerce will hold an Easter Egg Hunt at Fairfax Lake Park on Saturday (March 19) beginning at 1 p.m.

POKER RUN PLANNED

The fifth-annual Pawhuska Elks Lodge Cancer Benefit Poker Run will be held Saturday, April 30, at the lodge, located west of the former Alco Building on the west side of town.

Registration is set to begin at 9 a.m. (Maps listing the stops are to be provided at that time.) The first motyorcycle will roll out at 10 a.m. and the last bike is due in at 5 p.m. Entry fee is $20 per hand, with prizes for the high and low hands. The charity pot will be divided on a 50-50 basis.
