Barnsdall entered eight wrestlers in the Class 3A East Regional and qualified 170-pounder Joe Cole for state.
Cole cruised through the first three rounds with a bye, a major decision (13-3) and a fall (2:34).
He lost in the championship final by fall (4:46).
As a side note, Cole and Pawhuska’s Bryce Drummond — who finished as the Class 3A Regional runner-up at 195 pounds — both were the starting quarterback for their school football teams. Both squads advanced to the Class A state quarterfinals.
Barnsdall’s Dallas McGill (120 pounds) came in sixth and will be a state alternate.
McGill rallied from a quarterfinal loss to win twice in the consolation bracket and earn a spot in the consolation semifinals.
