The Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain (OSAI) is currently accepting online applications and scheduling auditions for the state’s premier arts academy for high school students, to be held June 13-18, 2020. As Oklahoma’s Official School of the Arts, the Institute is taught by nationally renowned artists and offers instruction in the literary, visual, and performing arts. Every accepted student automatically receives a full scholarship to the program.
Auditions are held from Jan. 18 through Feb. 10, with scheduling now open at oaiquartz.org.
Auditions will be held in the disciplines of acting, chorus, creative writing, dance, drawing and painting, film and video, orchestra, and photography. Throughout January and February, students can audition in 17 cities around the state: Altus, Alva, Ardmore, Bartlesville, Broken Arrow, Duncan, Idabel, Lawton, McAlester, Muskogee, Norman, Oklahoma City, Owasso, Shawnee, Stillwater, Tulsa and Yukon.
Accepted students spend two weeks studying with award-winning faculty from across the United States. Former OSAI faculty members have included winners of the Pulitzer Prize and the Academy, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Awards. The 2020 Summer Arts Institute faculty of nationally renowned artists include Music Director of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras Allen Tinkham, who will serve as conductor of the Institute Orchestra. Producer and host of the hit podcasts “Radiolab” and “Dolly Parton’s America,” Jad Abumrad, will join the Institute as guest artist.
“In my time here, I have been exposed to a breathtaking array of talents, not only in creative writing, but in other artistic pursuits as well,” said 2019 creative writing student J.D. Wright. “[OSAI] has helped me to discover myself as a writer, as a citizen, and as a person. It has developed me into a better and more passionate writer and observer of the world around me.””
To attend OSAI, applicants must be Oklahoma residents and must be 15 years old by Sept. 1, 2020. Graduating seniors are eligible. For more information about OSAI, including audition schedule and discipline requirements, visit oaiquartz.org.
