BARNSDALL — Cash Perrier, 17, a senior at Barnsdall High School, said Monday he benefited from attending Boys State this summer, by finding out more about how government really works.

“Everybody thinks they know about the government, and then you go to something like that and you learn about it,” Perrier said. Perrier represented American Legion Post 227, the Webster-Schrack Post, of Barnsdall, in Boys State activities held in Miami.

Perrier said he served first as a district attorney and then as a police chief during Boys State. He went to Miami for Boys State right after Barnsdall’s annual Big Heart Day celebration, he said.

Perrier is the great-grandson of the late Robert Perrier, who was a post commander for Post 227 and a veteran of the World War II era. He is also the grandson of Rick Perrier, who served in the National Guard during the Vietnam era.

“It was a great thing, for sure,” Perrier said of Boys State. “I didn’t know how it was going to go, but I loved it.”
