Barbara Elaine Poe

Barbara Elaine Poe passed away quietly on January 21, 2019, in Frisco, Texas. Elaine was born in Pawhuska on July 10, 1921, to Pearle and L.O. “Dutch” Maze. After growing up in Pawhuska and attending junior college and business school in Tulsa, she married Marcus H. Poe on June 28, 1941. They settled in Pawhuska following the war, where she taught piano and served as organist for the Methodist Church, of which she was a member. She was active in Heeko Club and enjoyed playing bridge, directing a duplicate bridge club in Pawhuska and attaining the status of Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League.

Elaine’s career path shifted when, in their 40’s, she and Marcus earned masters degrees in education, leading them to make their home in Crystal City, Missouri, where they eventually retired from the Missouri school system. Elaine found especially rewarding her work in establishing a “Gifted and Talented” enrichment program there. In later life Elaine and Marcus moved to Plano, Texas, to be near their son and his family.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Marcus and is survived by children Marcia Fernandez of Kansas City, Missouri and Marcus H. Poe, Jr. (wife Myong) of Prosper, Texas; grandchildren Colin Cox and Bradley Cox (wife Jennifer Owen) of Kansas City, Missouri, Jane Ash of Tulsa, and Liah Poe of Prosper; and great-granddaughter Cecilia Cox of Kansas City.
