The Carter County Sheriff’s office arrested Jerry Shane Sanderson July 2 on a felony charge of assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
Formal charges were filed in Carter County District Court on July 5. Charging documents in the case allege that Sanderson committed assault with a deadly weapon, shooting the alleged victim twice with intent to do bodily harm. If convicted, Sanderson could face up to life in prison.
Heard in Carter County District Court before Judge Carson Brooks, the case was set for a preliminary conference on September 6. Brooks set bond in the case in the amount of $1 million.
The judge also issued a no contact order as to the alleged victim and their family. The conditions of the order state that Sanderson is prohibited from attempting to have or having any contact whatsoever with those named in said order by any means. If that order were to be disregarded, it would possibly constitute further charges including stalking, or intimidation of a state’s witness due to Oklahoma State statutes under Title 21 Sections 1173 and 455, respectively.
