A 3-year-old child was pronounced dead on Saturday, July 7, after being pulled from the water at the Flint Creek Waterpark, in southern Delaware County, near the Oklahoma/Arkansas state lines.
According to information released by Justin Alberty, spokesman for the Grand River Dam Authority, members of the GRDA police force received the call about two children being pulled from the water at Flint Creek at approximately 7:40 p.m.
Alberty said the children, ages 3 and 2, were both recovered after being under water for an extended time.
Emergency medical personnel on the scene performed CPR on both children before transporting them to the Siloam Springs Regional Medical Center, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, where the 3-year-old was later pronounced dead.
Alberty said reports indicate the children wore life jackets played in the shallow water earlier in the day, but had removed the jackets in preparation to leave the creek.
While their parents were packing up their belongings, both children returned to the water without being noticed.
Alberty said the body of the 3-year old was taken to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner. Members of the GRDA police are continuing the investigation at this time.
