Janet Neufeld, superintendent of Pawhuska Public Schools, said in an email Tuesday that Indian Camp Principal Kimberly Hester will be transferring within the school district to a literacy coach position that is being created through a grant the district recently received.

The Pawhuska district was awarded an Oklahoma Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy grant, in the amount of $742,353. The Board of Education talked in April about Neufeld’s hiring recommendations for positions being created through the grant, but did not immediately act on those recommendations. Some board members asked for more information.

During a board meeting Monday night, the board voted 5-0 to hire Hester for the literacy coach position, Neufeld said. The board also voted 5-0 to hire Libby Strahan to serve as striving readers project director.
