Patrons and supporters of The Cottage extend the invitation to join them at The Hilton Garden Inn for the Cottage White Party at 6 p.m. March 24. The evening will host performance artist Mike Debus from Kansas City, who will paint live and have his finished pieces auctioned during the event. Clint Musslewhite will keep the evening moving as the host for the event.
The Cottage, a local organization that offers free pregnancy testing and early ultrasound, social assistance, and educational programs as well as a maternity home for women with unexpected circumstances during their pregnancy is planning a night of creative fun. The organization was established in February of 2016 by Juli Merciez, RN, BSN, and Becky Le, RN, PhD.
Always having a passion for drawing and painting, Debus graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree. After college and a handful of years in corporate America, he decided to change his course and pursue his dream of becoming a full time free-lance artist. Since 2001, Debus has successfully created portraits, murals, and countless commissioned works. In 2008 he was asked if he would paint live on stage at a large conference in downtown Kansas City and after accepting the challenge his main focus has enthusiastically taken his talents around the country to audiences of all sizes.
“Guest will have an opportunity to participate in a spirited live auction as part of the entertainment for the evening,” said Blair Link, event co-chair. “Dress for the evening is after 5 ‘dressed in white.’Add some creative decor and everyone will fit right in.”
“The Cottage came into existence after working in Labor and Delivery, education and corporate settings for over 44years of total experience between Becky and myself,” Merciez explains.
With a strong emphasis on education and entering the community as a full-time contributor and provider to her family.
“It’s a unique model. We see organizations specialize in specific aspects of a woman’s life and decision making process, but we get to be there from a vital time in her life where she may face unexpected or unplanned circumstances and develop a relationship and plan that includes: Healthy Mom/Healthy Baby, Social and Community Resources, and Education.
A VIP Cocktail and Auction Preview and meet and greet with Mike Debus for sponsors is at 5:30 p.m. followed by patron registration at 6 p.m. where attendees will be entertained with bistro style food, a cash bar, silent auction, and the live entertainment.
