Pawhuska’s sixth- through eighth-grade Lady Huskies’ softball team clinched the championship of the Oklahoma Union Junior High Softball Tournament with a Saturday night triumph over Nowata.

The Lady Huskies earned a spot in the title game by sweeping three pool-round games Friday. Pawhuska topped squads from Copan, Salina and Welch.

“They started out a little slow, but really seemed to gain confidence as the day went on,” said Patrick McCarty, who coached the Lady Huskie squad along with Michael Stroud.

The final score of the championship contest was officially recorded as 11-1, although there was some question as to whether the Lady Huskies’ opponent had even scored.
