Elizabeth “Betty” Anna Melton

Elizabeth “Betty” Anna Melton, 88, lifelong resident of Bartlesville, passed away in her home Saturday, June 9, 2018.

Elizabeth, affectionately known as Betty, was born the daughter of John B. and Emma Pauline (Kombrink) Sushnik on July 18, 1929. Betty was devoted to those she loved, especially her mother and father who she cared for throughout their lives. After graduating from College High in 1947, Betty worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. where she met the love of her life Carlos R. Melton Jr. On June 8,1951, they secretly eloped in Eureka Springs, AR. Being such a devoted daughter, she continued living with her parents until her sister tattled that she was married. Carlos and Betty shared 61 years of marriage together before Carlos passed away in 2011.

Betty was a devoted mom. When her first daughter Donna was born Betty retired from Phillips to become a stay-at-home mom. She loved being involved in her children’s lives and was an active member of the PTA and a Homeroom Mom, baking treats and making gifts for classroom parties.

Her travels with Carlos were some of her fondest memories. Her favorite trips were to Hawaii and multiple trips to Europe. She enjoyed making clothes for herself and her children, often matching outfits. She loved being “Nana” to her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and loved to “show them off” to everyone. Betty absolutely loved to shop. She collected antiques, dolls and Betty Boop items. She had many pets throughout her life that she loved dearly including several cats and dogs, especially Poodles and Pomeranians.

Betty is survived by her two daughters Donna Brashear and Jay of Bartlesville, and Diane Langley and Rick of Ramona; seven grandchildren Steven Anderson and Trinity, Traci Watson and John, Mark Brashear, Betsy Brashear, Josh Langley and Nicole, Jacob Langley and Katherine, Lacey Langley; 10 great grandchildren, Hali, Madyson, Brynlee, Eva, Emma, Ryker, Eli, Charlotte, Skylar, Bella; her beloved and very special cat Clyde and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son David Melton in 1988, brother John Edward Sushnik and sister Norma Drehman.
