Pawhuska High School has chosen two students as valedictorians and one student as a salutatorian in the 2013 graduating class.
ARIN ANTHONY — PHS 2013 VALEDICTORIAN
Arin Anthony, daughter of Mark and Bobbie Anthony, has earned the distinction of being a 2013 Pawhuska High School Valedictorian.
Following graduation, Anthony plans to attend Oral Roberts University for dual degrees in nursing and music ministry. Her objective is to become a medical missionary.
Anthony’s honors and activities include National and State Honor Society, 4-year PHS Honors Banquet honoree, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council Secretary, Key Club Vice President, FFA President, National FFA Chorus and two consecutive years as State FFA Chorus.
Anthony’s musical talents are becoming well known in and around Pawhuska. She is drawing an impressive following with her original songs that are often accompanied by her guitar. In addition to entertaining for local civic groups, Anthony had the honor of singing the National Anthem a cappella at the recent PHS Honors Banquet.
Anthony’s favorite memory is when she represented the Huskies on the national level for FFA Chorus. She recalled the best advice she ever received was from her Sunday school teacher Margret Long. "She told me I should pray to be at the right place at the right time, with the right people, doing the right thing," said Anthony. Her advice to her underclassmen is "Keep the faith, stay strong, and love always."
JENI HENDRICKS — PHS 2013 VALEDICTORIAN
Jeni Hendricks, daughter of Mark and Marci Hendricks, has earned the distinction of being a 2013 Pawhuska High School Valedictorian.
Following graduation, Hendricks plans to major in Exercise Science with a goal of becoming a Physical Therapist.
Hendricks is a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ecumenical Christian Youth Group and Parish Peals Bell Choir. She has been a mentor for the Osage Nation Prevention Program since 2011. Her honors include 4-year National and State Honor Societies and PHS Honor’s banquet honoree. She was Kiwanis Sophomore of the year, 2011 Oklahoma Tennis State Qualifier, 2013 FCA North Central Oklahoma Region All-State award winner. Hendricks was also selected as a 2012 Oklahoma Girls State delegate and 2012-2013 Football Homecoming Queen.
Currently, she is Student Council President, Key Club President, Class Secretary, Varsity Cheerleader, a member of FCA, FCBV Club Soccer and Varsity Tennis. She had the honor of leading the opening prayer for the recent PHS Honors Banquet. Hendricks credits mom Marci with giving her best advice when she said, "Be pretty if you can be, be witty if you must, but be gracious if it kills you." Her advice to her underclassmen is "It’s NEVER too early to begin college applications and to be kind to everyone."
HUNTER SUTHERLAND — PHS 2013 SALUTATORIAN
Hunter Sutherland, daughter of Scott and Stacy Sutherland, has earned the distinction of being Pawhuska High School 2013 Salutatorian. Hunter plans to attend Oklahoma State University and major in pre-med. Her goal is to become an Anesthesiologist or a Nurse Anesthesiologist.
Hunter is a 4-year PHS Honor’s banquet honoree and a member of the National Honor Society and Oklahoma State Honor Society . She had the distinction of leading the Pledge of Allegiance preceding the recent 2013 Honors Banquet. The best advice she has received was from her dad Scott who said, "Word hard now so you won’t have to later." Hunter’s advice to her underclassmen is "Work hard and stay caught up on all your work."
