Basketball Homecoming is scheduled this Thursday evening at Pawhuska High School during the Huskies/Lady Huskies games against visiting Caney Valley.
The girls’ contest will tip off at Oren Terrill Field House at 6:30 p.m. Homecoming events are slated for halftime of the Huskies’ showdown with the CVHS Trojans, which should start around 8 p.m.
A month ago, the PHS boys lost to Caney Valley at the Sperry Tournament. But the Huskies won its last two games in 2013 and will be looking to avenge the earlier defeat by the Trojans. Monty Unruh is head coach of the Pawhuska boys’ squad, which ended December with a 2-3 mark for the year.
Coach of the PHS girls’ squad is Austin Minshall, who previously coached at Caney Valley. The Lady Huskies got off to a 3-2 start this season.
Pawhuska’s basketball squads were looking to get back on the court Tuesday night in road games at Newkirk. They were supposed to re-launch the 2013-14 basketball campaign with Monday night home games against Barnsdall, but inclement weather forced cancellation of those contests for the second time this season. The Huskies-versus-Panthers games originally had been scheduled for early December.
Next week, the PHS hoops teams are to play at home Tuesday night versus Blackwell and then head out of town for a Thursday night double-header in Pawnee. On Friday, Jan. 17, the Huskies and Lady Huskes will be at Barnsdall.
