Bartlesville High School’s football team endured on Friday another clash with growing pains.
But, even though they got down, the Bruins never let down.
Trailing 33-0 in the fourth quarter to the Del City Eagles, the Bartlesville staged an uprising that stirred the hearts of thousands of spectators that hung tough at Custer Stadium.
DeAndre Young broke off a long touchdown run to electrify the long-suffering faithful. Bartlesville then recovered an onside kick and drove the ball down to the two-yard line before turning it over on downs.
Del City then ran out the clock to finalize its 33-7 victory.
Bruin coach Lee Blankenship praised his team’s spirit in continuing to fight to the end.
He also lauded his team’s defensive grittiness, which held the Eagles in check throughout the first half. Del City led by only a touchdown going into intermission, 7-0.
