COMMERCE — Commerce didn’t let a little thing like a soggy field slow things down.

The Tigers, getting points in the first, second and fourth quarters, bulldozed Green Forest, Arkansas, 32-0 here Friday, Sept. 7.

A heavy rain earlier in the afternoon had had Tiger Field “looking like a pond,” according to head coach Steve Moss.

“Drains got most of the standing water off, but it was really muddy,” Moss said.

The Tigers got 13 points in the opening frame thanks to a 3-yard run and a 38-yard fumble return by Chris Ibarra.

A 24-yard run by Ibarra and the PAT kick by Hayden Moss made it 20-0 early in the second quarter.

CHS’s final two scores came in the span of just over 2 minutes on a 3-yard pass from Hayden Moss to Chris Ibarra and a 10-yard return of a blocked punt by Ryan Dunbar.

“We played better,” Steve Moss said. “We’ve still got things to improve on, of course, but I was a lot happier than a week ago. We corrected some things. We didn’t have any fumbles and had three the week before.

The defense played a big role in the win.

“We had a defensive touchdown and blocked punt for a touchdown. We haven’t had that in a while,” Steve Moss said. “They had another (turnover) that gave us the ball inside the 20 on a fumble return, so the defense helped the offense quite a bit.”

Chris Ibarra had 85 yards rushing and two TDs on 11 attempts. He also caught four passes for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Hayden Moss completed 8 of 19 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. He threw two interceptions.

Oscar Gutierrez had three receptions for 75 yards and Ryan Dunbar caught one pass for 18 yards.

Defensively, Brandon Kelley and Seth Hailey had nine total tackles for CHS. Jayke Murphy was in on eight and Lance Hyatt and Brandon Brown six each.
