Tribe finishes on explosive note

Five games in three days.

Four wins.

Pretty sharp.

That sums up the experience of the Bartlesville Doenges Ford Indians during their weekend excursion to the College of Ozarks Showcase baseball tourney in Branson, Mo.

After clawing and smashing to a 3-1 record in pool play, the Indians hunkered down Saturday in the third-place game — which featured the No. 2 seeds from each pool.

The Indians (7-2) whipsawed to an 8-0 victory against Fike (Mo.). Bartlesville departed from the Show-Me State with a 4-1 and plenty of confidence.

Grant Yardley started on the hill for the Indians against Fike — a fellow American Legion baseball team — and picked up the win.

Cole Ellis and John Cone each threw in relief to preserve the ironclad stamp of an Indian shutout.

While Indian pitchers and gloves the their jobs, the offense did the rest.

Bartlesville surged early onto the scoreboard on a triple by Noah Yearout to drive home Ellis. Yearout also scored in the frame.

In the second inning, Randsom Jones crushed a ground-rule double. Both he and Isaiah Meissner came home in the frame to bump the Indians’ lead to 4-0.

In the top of the fourth, Gavin Feathers added another insurance run.

The Indians finished off their scoring with runs by Yardley, Yearout and Ellis.

Next up, the Indians are slated to be home Wednesday for KWON Night at the Ballpark. Hundreds of dollars of prizes are planned to be distributed during the game against Fort Smith (Ark.). A large crowd is expected.

The first pitch is due for 6 p.m. at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.
