DALE – Things got cooking early for Dale in a 14-0 opening day win at home against Ripley Tuesday that lasted only four innings.

The Pirates scored three runs in the first on a triple by Gant Hathcock, double by Scout Capps and sac from Drew Reed and things kept getting worse for Ripley.

Reed and Hathcock followed up again in the second as they each hit two-run doubles and Austin Custar and David Herring each singled to bring in a run to go up 9-0.

Capps hit a bases clearing triple in the third and Reed and Capps each drove in a run. The Pirates never batted in the fourth.

Reed was 2-2 with a double and four runs and Capps was 2-3 with a double, triple and four runs. Hathcock was 2-3 with a double, triple and three runs, Custar singled twice and Bryce Crawford was 2-2 on a pair of doubles and was hit by a pitch.

The No. 2 in Class 2A Pirates host Carl Albert and Sulphur Thursday with a 4:30 start time.
