KELLYVILLE — The game came down to the wire. Kellyville held a 1-point lead with a minute to go. Then, the Lady Ponies hit a trey, a  2-point bucket and free throws to claim a 39-32 win over the Pawhuska girls basketball team Tuesday night. Kellyville (8-3) was No. 15 in the Class 3A in the latest OSSAA Rankings. “They are really, really good,” Pawhuska Coach Luke Broadbent said. “It’s been a tough stretch for us — a real murderers’ row." The Lady Huskies (7-5) defeated a ranked Newkirk squad on Jan. 2, but lost to Dewey on Friday and Kellyville. In the Kellyville game, the Lady Ponies led 14-9 after the first quarter and 26-15 at half. Pawhuska held Kellyville to two points in the third, trailing 28-21 heading into the final period. The Lady Huskies took a brief lead with 3 1/2 minutes left in the game. Broadbent said he thought the Lady Huskies were going to win. “We just didn’t score at the very end,”  he said. Sierra Sellers and Star Sweeden paced Pawhuska with 7 apiece. Kaiti Moen added six. Jade Upshaw scored 12 to lead all scorers. Breanna Marts and Sarah Jones chipped in 11 and 10, respectively, for Kellyville. The next two games will be critical for Pawhuska. The Lady Huskies will play the late game Friday night against Barnsdall. It’s homecoming for Pawhuska.  “We have to win the next two games. If we do we will be in good shape (for the tournament).
