FAIRLAND — Fairland’s boys jumped out to a 12-point first quarter lead and coasted to a 50-37 win over Quapaw here Friday, Dec. 1.
In the girls’ game, Quapaw picked up its first win by defeating Fairland 40-35 in overtime.
The Owls (2-0) saw their 12-point first-quarter lead melt to four by intermission, but pulled away with a 12-9 edge in the third period.
Isaac Mathews scored 12 of his game-high 15 points during a 20-point fourth quarter burst by Fairland.
Joining Mathews in double figures was Thatcher Smalley with 11.
Cole Cawlfield added eight points, followed by Cayden Elliott and James Morris, with six each, Jose Garcia, three, and Trey Martin, one.
Jonas Gregory tallied 12 points for the Wildcats (0-3).
Caleb Hoffman and Jordan Carolus scored five each, followed by Kai Anderson, four; Chris Durbin, three, and Kale Thomasson, Matt Lovell, Drayven Blunk and Anthony Moreno, two each.

Karissa Anderson helped the Lady Wildcats pick up their first win with an 8-5 edge in overtime.
She scored six of her eight points in the extra period, going 4-for-6 at the free throw line.
Skyler Evans was the leading scorer for Quapaw (1-2) with 15 points.
The Lady Wildcats also got six from Chloe Tyner, five from Lu Attocknie, four from Jenni Jennings and two from Shea Otteson.
Fairland (0-2) picked up 17 points from Nikki Dingle. She scored eight in the fourth quarter and accounted for all five of the Lady Owls’ overtime points.
Others scoring for Fairland were Brooke Tudor, seven; Cayden Harper, five, and Jessica Roberts, Kyndall Davis and Savannah Hutchison chipped in with two each.
