McPherson (Kan.) didn’t do any sneaking up this postseason on Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer tournament.
Last year, McPherson stunned the Eagles, knocked them out of the tourney and the No. 1 ranking in the nation.
But, in this year’s final — played Friday in Bartlesville — the Eagles routed McPherson, 5-2, for a blast of payback and to net the conference crown.
Five different Eagles scored goals — Jose Ponce, Alberto Picchi, Stefan Lukic, Julio Belo and Daniel Cordeiro. Jovan Petrovic handed out two of the four assists.
Dusan Djordjev went the distance in goal for OKWU (19-1-1) and made two saves.
Djordjev enjoyed the lead most the way. Picchi opened the scoring — with an assist from Jorge Garcia-Fernandez — less than 12 minutes into the match. Less than five minutes later Belo scored to make a 2-0 match — and the rout was on.
Jamie Peterson coaches the Eagles.
